ILOILO CITY, Philippines – Women are set to take the reins of Iloilo City’s top elected positions with Raisa Treñas for mayor, Julienne “Jam-Jam” Baronda for district representative, and Lady Julie Grace “Love-Love” Baronda for vice mayor.

Based on partial, unofficial results from the Comelec Media Server with 99.52% precincts reporting as of 1:30 pm on Tuesday, May 13, Treñas led with 169,096 votes against Roland Magahin with 74,768 votes.

The eldest daughter of Mayor Jerry Treñas, Raisa campaigned on continuing her father’s legacy of infrastructure development, pandemic response, and good governance. Before entering politics, she was appointed as executive assistant to the mayor.

Meanwhile, the Baronda sisters also secured major victories.

The same poll data showed that Jam-Jam clinched her third and final term as the city’s lone district representative with 177,282 votes against independent candidates Mel Carreon and Danilo Purzuelo who received 44, 384 and 4,921 votes, respectively.

Meanwhile, Love-Love is leading in the vice mayoral race with 131, 951 votes against incumbent Jeffrey Ganzon’s 120,595.

Jam-Jam has served in Congress since 2019 and held leadership roles in various national committees. Love-Love, a three-term city councilor, has authored over 1,000 legislative measures focused on education, youth development, and social services. Both their parents, Dr. Urminico and Dr. Julie Baronda, have served in public office.

In the provincial race, Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque defeated 5th District Representative Raul “Boboy” Tupas in one of the most closely watched races in the province. Debuque secured 545,480 votes against Tupas’ 497,972. – Rappler.com
