MANILA, Philippines – Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan has been elected to a second term.
He was proclaimed as winner of the mayoral race, along with other newly-elected Caloocan officials, on Tuesday, May 13.
He garnered 266,789 as of 10:54 am on Tuesday, with 76.57% of precincts reporting, based on the partial unofficial tally of the Commission on Elections.
His closest rival, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, got 175,563 also based on the partial count.
In 2022, Malapitan ran for city hall to replace his father, former Caloocan mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan, who was then already term-limited. He had served as 1st District representative from 2016 to 2022.
The Malapitans have held the mayoral post in Caloocan for more than a decade.
Malapitan had defeated Trillanes in public trust surveys conducted by the Social Weather Stations a few months before the polls.
In late April, the Caloocan mayor was among those who received show cause orders from the Commission on Elections. The orders compelled candidates to explain alleged vote-buying and abuse of state resources.
Caloocan is located north of Metro Manila and is the third largest city in the metro. It is home to at least 1.6 million residents and has over 760,000 registered voters for the 2025 midterm polls. – Rappler.com
